Young American Flat Track Racer Leaves Lasting Mark on Family, Friends and Racing Community
PEORIA, Ill. — The American Flat Track community is mourning the death of Bayne Nantz, a promising young racer who died from injuries sustained in a crash during the Peoria TT.
Nantz was competing in his heat race when he crashed after the backstretch jump. He suffered critical injuries and was taken to OSF Children’s Hospital, where medical teams worked to care for him for roughly a week and a half.
Despite the extensive efforts of his doctors and nurses, Bayne ultimately died from his injuries, his family said.
A Young Racer Making His Mark
Bayne was beginning to establish himself in motorcycle racing through the Road to AFT class and had earned recognition within the American Flat Track community.
The Peoria TT, held as the Dan Bromley Memorial, was particularly meaningful for the young racer. He qualified second for the event, a result that made him extremely proud.
His family recalled that Bayne returned from qualifying with a smile and expressed confidence about his chances in the race.
Those final memories of Bayne at the track have become especially precious to his loved ones.
Family Thanks Those Who Stood Beside Them
Following the crash, the Nantz family received an enormous outpouring of support from people throughout the racing community and beyond.
In a statement released by Nantz Bros Racing, the family thanked everyone who helped them during the difficult days that followed, including friends, fellow racers, community members and the staff at OSF Children’s Hospital.
They expressed particular gratitude to those who brought food and clothing, offered prayers and kept Bayne and his family in their thoughts.
The family also thanked the Danvers community, the Vault staff, supporters who attended the “Pizza for Bayne” fundraiser, and members of Bayne’s racing family who continued to stand behind them.
The family said Bayne’s organs would be donated through Gift of Hope, allowing his legacy to continue by potentially helping others.
Remembering Bayne Off the Track
While Bayne was known for his ability and determination on a motorcycle, his family emphasized that his greatest qualities were found away from the racetrack.
They remembered him as loving, generous, intelligent, creative, funny and compassionate. He enjoyed working on projects, spending time with his family and finding ways to make people laugh.
His loved ones described a young man who could take on challenging adventures and projects while still cherishing simple family traditions and everyday moments.
They also remembered Bayne as someone who welcomed people easily and had a natural ability to brighten the lives of those around him.
Racing Community Pays Tribute
American Flat Track and AMA Pro Racing released a statement mourning Bayne’s death and extending condolences to his family, friends and fellow competitors.
Other members of the racing community have also shared memories of Bayne and reflected on the friendship and camaraderie he developed during his years in the sport.
Everythings Fine Racing remembered him as a passionate, determined and talented racer with a personality that made him unforgettable.
The team also highlighted Bayne’s close friendship with fellow racer Rhett. The pair met at Springfield Short Track years ago and quickly developed a friendship that resulted in countless shared memories.

For Bayne’s family, his legacy is about much more than racing accomplishments.
It is about the happiness he brought to others, his kindness toward people and the relationships he built throughout his life.
His family said he had a special ability to make people smile and leave others feeling better simply by being around them.
